General Information/Weather
Taos, New Mexico, is a small, relaxed community of people, some of whose ancestors have been living in the area for over 1000 years. Taos is located between the headwaters of the Rio Grande River and the base of the Sangre de Cristo range of the southern Rocky Mountains. Taos is internationally famous for its local art scene, interesting shops, museums and galleries. Restaurants in the area are renowned for their creative interpretation of the local cuisine. Downhill skiing and now snowboarding are available at the Taos Ski Valley, 20 miles (32 km) away. There will be complimentary transportation from the conference center to the Taos Ski Valley each day. If you have your own vehicle you can also visit Red River or Angel Fire Ski areas for skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing.

· Tip #1: Accommodations are spread out over 5 miles (8km). In town shuttles arrival/departure times are subject to change without notice.

 Food/Dining Notes: Included in your registration fee will be: buffet breakfast (each day of the meeting except departure day) coffee breaks, and social hour with light snacks during poster sessions.

 Tips/Other Notes:
  • If you fly to or from the Albuquerque International Airport, arrive no later than 9 pm and depart no earlier than 9 am. Ground transportation travel times are limited.

  • See mileages below for hotel proximity to the meetings.

  • Limited complimentary in-town and ski area shuttles will be available, but we suggest you rent a car. Many lodges are beyond walking distance.

  • Meeting B7, will be at the Taos Convention Center, 1 block from historic Taos Plaza, at the north end of town.

  • Meetings C1, C2 will be at the Sagebrush Conference Center, at the south end of town.

WEATHER NOTE:

Even if you are NOT participating in outdoor activities we suggest you bring clothes appropriate for local weather temperatures.

The meetings are "resort casual" in dress (khakis, jeans, casual shirts, sweaters). Clothes that can be layered for outdoor/indoor environment will work best.

Travel/Transportation Information

 Airport Lodging Notes: The Hilton Albuquerque is offering a discounted corporate rate of $99/night. This discounted rate is available pre and post of the meeting dates. Please call the Hilton Albuquerque directly at 800-274-6835x3401 and request the Keystone Symposia corporate rate.

 Ground Transportation: For transportation from Albuquerque International Airport to the site, call Comfort Suites at 888-751-1555 (In US and Canada) or 505-751-1555; Fax: 505-751-1991; email: comfort@newmex.com. The cost to and from Albuquerque is $114, plus tax. Advance reservations required with credit card, identify yourself with Keystone Symposia to receive this rate. Travel time is approximately 3 hours between Albuquerque and Taos.

Another option for transportation from the Albuquerque Airport to Taos is to take the train. You start by taking the Rapid Transit bus to the Downtown Train Station (located just south of Old Town) in Albuquerque. Then take The New Mexico Rail Runner Express which runs all the way to Santa Fe. Check online at http://www.nmrailrunner.com/ for rates and schedules. Then you can take the Taos Express shuttle from Sante Fe to Taos. Information on schedules and rates for the Taos Express can also be found at http://www.taosexpress.com/. The Taos Express only runs Thursday to Sunday on a limited schedule.

 Driving Directions: Allow 3 hours for driving from Albuquerque International Airport. Follow the signs (approximately 1 mile or 1.6 km) to North Interstate 25. Go north on Interstate 25 to Exit 276B, which exits onto SR-599 North, signed "Taos, Española, Los Alamos". At the end of SR-599 exit onto Highway 285. Take Highway 285 to Highway 68 which leads into Taos.

 Getting Around the Conference Area:

  • Floorplan of Conference area.

  • Conference Center Notes: Taos Conference Center is within 3-5 miles of all suggested hotels. There is a free shuttle for conferees however a car may be convenient for those wanting to explore the area. Parking is available around the Conference Center. Fees may apply.

  • Shuttle Information: A shuttle line runs from downtown historic Taos to most of the suggested hotels. Shuttle times and pick up locations will be available at the meeting. A shuttle to Taos Ski Valley will be available daily.
