University of Hong Kong/Croucher Foundation Travel Awards
Keystone Symposia has received a grant from the University of Hong Kong and the Croucher Foundation to fund
travel awards. University of Hong Kong/Croucher Foundation Travel Awards enable
attendance of students, postdoctoral fellows and regional scientists from East and Southeast Asia to attend
this conference.
Keystone Symposia encourages all eligible applicants (see country list below) to apply for these valuable awards.
The award will help defray the expenses of conference attendance up to 2,000 USD to include: registration, lodging,
airfare and ground transportation from/to host airport to the conference site. Awardees will be responsible for
arranging their own travel. Receipts will be required to receive reimbursement of listed expenses. Awardees should
be prepared for any unexpected costs of travel that may arise, such as those associated with flight changes,
visa application fees, etc. The awardee accepts responsibility for such costs.
- The amount of the awards will up to 2,000 USD. Registration fees will be paid in-kind and deducted from the 2,000 USD award total.
- Awards will be based on review of application content by the CEO and/or CSO of Keystone Symposia.
- The number of awards is contingent on funding received for this program.
Main criteria for selection are as follows:
- The application articulates why participation in the meeting would benefit the applicant's research endeavors.
- The application includes some indication that the applicant's participation will have an impact beyond the applicant alone, e.g., initiation of new collaborations, teaching, etc.
- The application includes a clear indication that the applicant is both working in the area covered by the meeting and making a clinically or scientifically significant contribution to the area.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this Travel Award, you must:
- Be a citizen from one of the following East and Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, North Korea, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
- Be a regional scientist, post-doctoral associate, or student residing and working in listed East and Southeast Asian countries.
- Per the terms of this award, an applicant is eligible to receive one award per meeting year (July 1st - June 30th).

We will not accept any parts of the application via email or fax. Everything needs to be completed through your account online.
Note that you may apply for both a Travel Award and Scholarship but can only receive one.

Scholarships
Keystone Symposia is offering scholarships of up to 1,200 USD to Students and Postdoctoral fellows. These scholarships are to be used to help defray the expenses associated with conference attendance, including airfare (restrictions may apply based on funding source), ground transportation, lodging costs, and a portion of meeting registration. Receipts will be required to receive reimbursement.
Abstracts submitted for poster presentation will be used as the basis for awarding the scholarships. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on the quality of science of the abstract and the relevance of the abstract to the conference topic. Only one application per abstract is accepted. Only one award per lab will be allocated.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a scholarship, you must be:
A graduate student or postdoctoral fellow currently enrolled in an academic institute at the start of the meeting for which you are applying. Note: a graduate student is defined as a student who is studying for a higher degree at an academic institution. A postdoctoral fellow is defined as an individual with a Ph.D., M.D., or DVM degree who is engaged in a temporary period of mentored research and/or scholarly training for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to pursue their desired career path, and is within 6 years of these degrees.
Review Criteria
Criteria for Abstract Review:
- Relevance to the meeting topic
- Significance of the scientific question and results
- Style
- Organization (e.g. the abstract has a clear beginning, middle and end)
- Grammar and spelling
- Clarity of scientific presentations
- Clear question or hypothesis
- Sufficient background
- The experimental approach and rationale for the approach are clear
- The results are clearly presented
- The interpretation and conclusions are reasonable and logical
Application Process
If you are eligible and wish to be considered for a scholarship,
you should complete all of the following by the scholarship deadline for the meeting you wish to attend. It is recommended you begin these steps in advance of the deadline date to ensure completion.
- Verify your contact information
- Submit an abstract for the meeting to which you are applying (with paid abstract fee)
- Have your mentor submit a letter via our website to verify your status as a student or postdoc
