What is the Diversity in Life Science Programs (DLSP)?

The DLSP provides diverse early career scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students with the opportunity to receive travel awards to Keystone Symposia meetings (ABRCMS Scholars program; Early Career Investigator Travel Awards (ECITA); Underrepresented Trainee Scholarships; and the Fellows Program). Participants in the Fellows Program receive mentoring from Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) members and other professional development training in cellular and molecular biology. My Personal Reflections on the late Congressman Louis Stokes (D-OH)

 

I had the personal pleasure of working for Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) as a Women's Research and Education Institute (WREI) Fellow in 1991-92, and in that capacity I was able to spend a significant amount of time with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and their staffs. Members of the CBC are given leadership over particular subject areas. For Rep. Waters it was banking. For Rep. Stokes it was health and the sciences, Each year, the CBC hosts what is now called the Annual Legislative Conference (or ALC), a series of sessions sponsored by various members of the CBC on issues germane to communities of color.
