Frontiers in Cryo-Electron Microscopy
Scientific Organizers: Sriram Subramaniam, Nenad Ban, Dorit Hanein and Pamela Williams
Date: February 02 - 05, 2021
Location: Fairmont Banff Springs, Banff, AB, Canada
Supported by the Directors' Fund
Summary of Meeting:
The transition of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) from a technology that was previously a useful tool to analyze large macromolecular assemblies, to one that can now successfully tackle structure determination of a wide range of proteins and protein complexes of broad general interest has been transformative. The structures of an impressive number of proteins, small and large, sometimes with extensive conformational spread, have been successfully analyzed by cryo-EM, although the landscape of macromolecular entities that are still intractable to analysis by cryo-EM remains immense. This meeting aims to bring together leaders in this emerging field who are defining the new frontiers of cryo-EM and future leaders who are rapidly beginning to adopt this new discipline and will likely drive future innovations in the coming decades. Speakers selected from academia, government and industry will cover applications of cryo-EM technology to fundamental problems in biology with particular relevance to cancer, neuroscience, microbiology and cell signaling, and discuss advances in method developments that are at the forefront of the field.
Registration opens in January 2020
