Innovative Vaccine Approaches
Scientific Organizers: Mariagrazia Pizza, Galit Alter and Gordon Dougan
Date: June 27 - July 01, 2021
Location: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Vaccines can prevent and potentially eradicate infectious diseases, representing one of the most effective measure to save lives. The vaccinology field is evolving very rapidly and areas that are impacting in this regard include (1) advances in microbiology, immunology, genomics; (2) the structural analysis of antigens and antigen-antibody complexes and how variation impacts on this; (3) mechanisms of immunity and protection and the identification of correlates. However, many questions are still unsolved and concerted efforts will be needed to address the future challenges. Participants in this meeting will be exposed to the most innovative vaccine approaches. These will include (1) novel antigen delivery systems; (2) in vitro and in vivo model systems for vaccine appraisal (3) the use of human challenge models; (4) The role of ‘systems biology’ in the comprehensive analysis of immune correlates and biomarker identification, including safety; (5) machine-learning approaches to define correlations between antibody repertoires and protection. We will also consider innovative approaches for making low cost vaccines for economically challenged populations. These innovative approaches will be essential if vaccines are to address the new challenges such as antimicrobial resistance, emerging infectious diseases, cancer and an aging population.
Registration opens in January 2020
