Summary of Meeting:
Enormous advances have been made in our understanding of the molecular mechanism that regulate cell proliferation and cell death, and this knowledge is now being applied to the development of drugs designed to target key components of these pathways. Small molecules that function in this way will be useful as both experimental tools and potential therapeutics for human disease, particularly cancer. The aim of this meeting is to explore the progress, and potential for progress, in the translation of several areas of basic cell biology to drug development. Sessions will concentrate on the regulation of cell proliferation, cell death and tumor progression, with speakers ranging from basic academic scientists to industrial scientists who are in the process of developing screens and testing lead compounds. By integrating the basic and applied science in each session we hope to stimulate interactions and discussion to help identify and develop new molecular targets.
