Innate Immunity to Pathogens
Organizer(s): Wayne M. Yokoyama, Christine A. Biron and Stefan H.E. Kaufmann
Date: January 08 - 13, 2005
Location: Sheraton Steamboat Resort, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA
Sponsored by Burroughs Wellcome Fund

Summary of Meeting:
The innate immune response is critical to control of pathogens during the early phases of infection. Recent advances have elaborated the orchestrated series of events involving innate immune cells, cytokines, chemokines, and other effector molecules that are required to restrain virus, bacteria, and parasite growth and dissemination. The innate immune system also influences adaptive immune responses. This meeting will be organized around mechanistic themes that are found in innate immune responses to a wide variety of pathogens. Students, post-doctoral fellows, and investigators will benefit from learning about emerging concepts of innate immunity to pathogens that may be applicable to their own studies of immunity to other organisms, and will illuminate new areas for exploration.
