Bioactive Lipids, Lipidomics and their Targets
joint with PPAR/LXR
Organizer(s): Garret A. FitzGerald, Ian Blair and Ronald M. Evans
Date: April 12 - 17, 2005
Location: Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Whistler, BC, Canada
Supported by The Director's Fund
Summary of Meeting:
There is an increasing appreciation of the role of lipids as ligands for membrane and nuclear receptors, as intracellular signals and as direct modulators of protein function. Additionally, the use of specific quantitation of lipids as biomarkers and as guides to drug dosage in model systems and in humans, now known as lipidomics, is attracting attention. Such measurements may also be incorporated into integrated analyses of biochemical pathways - metabolomics. Finally, the combined use of lipidomics and metabolomics with emerging proteomic and genomic technologies is set to revolutionize integrative physiology, creating new diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities in human disease. This Keystone Conference is traditionally focused on the biochemistry and pharmacology of prostaglandins and related compounds. However, the program has been expanded to appeal to those with broad ranging interests in the role of lipids in the post genomic era. This program will have particular relevance for those with interests in the biochemistry, genetics, pharmacology and chemistry of lipids, their biosynthetic enzymes and target proteins.
