HIV/AIDS Fellows and New Investigators Workshop on Grantsmanship and Career Development Organizer(s): Opendra Sharma, Julie Overbaugh and Susan Plaeger Date: April 11 - 18, 2004 Location: Whistler Conference Centre, Whistler, BC, CanadaIn association with the joint symposia on HIV Pathogenesis and HIV Vaccine Development, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is sponsoring a workshop titled HIV/AIDS Fellows and New Investigators Workshop on Grantsmanship and Career Development. The objectives of the workshop are to provide opportunities for postdoctoral fellows/trainees and new investigators to learn how to be successful in grant funding, network with leading HIV/AIDS researchers, and promote collaborations among HIV research investigators. The workshop will begin April 12 with sessions on the NIH grants process and tips for writing a successful grant application. Pathways for career development and how to identify the most appropriate funding mechanisms for new and foreign investigators also will be discussed. The following afternoon’s continuation of the Workshop will include review of grants by a mock study section. In addition Hands-On Computer Workshops and 'Tutorials - Meet with the Experts' sessions will be held during the Symposia. This will allow Workshop participants to meet and interact with Symposia speakers in a small, informal setting.

The 'Hands On Computer Workshops' from 12:30 - 2:00 PM on Wednesday and Thursday are located in the Mt. Currie North room of the Delta Whistler Resort...NOT in the Conference Centre. It is a short walk to the Delta Whistler Resort from the Conference Centre.
