Program Accomplishments

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION

Keystone Symposia will serve as a catalyst for the advancement of biomedical and life sciences by connecting scientists within and across disciplines at conferences and workshops held at venues that create an environment conducive to information exchange, generation of new ideas, and acceleration of discoveries that benefit society.

2023–2024 CONFERENCE SEASON: PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Keystone Symposia's 2023—2024 Conference Season (July 2023 — June 2024) featured 52 conferences across a variety of life sciences topics that attracted the participation of 8,897 in-person and virtual attendees from 71 countries. Conferees came from across sectors, with 48% of attendees from industry, 44% from academia, and 4% each from government and non-profits. Student and postdoc participation was 40%.

Some notable achievements and milestones included:

  • Keystone Symposia awarded 418 scholarships for conference attendance to deserving graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, funded by its own operating funds as well as generous donor and grant support.
  • Global Health Travel Awards funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the VW foundation enabled 106 investigators and clinicians from developing countries to attend meetings in the 2024 Keystone Symposia Global Health Series.
  • Attendees completing the exit surveys gave high ratings for professional development opportunities at Keystone Symposia conferences: 78% percent agreed that they made a contact at the conference they attended that will lead to a collaboration or sharing of information, data or techniques and 83% percent of attendees agreed that the conference facilitated interactions between junior and senior investigators.
  • Keystone Symposia conferences continue to rate high in scientific quality and excellence: 90% of exit survey respondents rated the scientific content “Excellent” or “Very Good” and 84% agreed with the statement “I learned something at this conference that will alter the direction of one of my projects and/or accelerate a research objective.”
