Meeting Summary

Neural-Immune interactions occur throughout life and shape the course of neurological diseases, including those caused by autoimmunity, ischaemia or neurodegeneration. Our understanding of the molecular pathways that govern neuro-immune interactions,  the spatial context in which they occur and the consequences they have for CNS homeostasis and pathology is rapidly evolving. This Keystone Symposia conference on Neural-Immune Interactions: Immune Modulation of CNS Biology will highlight advances in the basic biology of the neuro-immune axis and explore how it can initiate, modulate and maintain inflammation in the CNS.  The program aims to elucidate new concepts on how adaptive and innate immune cells communicate with CNS resident neurons and glia,  reveal how communication is transmitted across compartments and delineate ways for therapeutic intervention.

To this end, we bring together experts who study the intersection of neuroimmunology, neurodegeneration, and CNS biology and want to learn from colleagues studying neuroinflammation in the context of stroke, infections and neurodegeneration. This exchange across disease entities is fostered by the fact that this meeting will being held jointly with another Keystone Symposia conference on New Hope on Neurodegeneration: From Mechanisms to Precision Diagnosis and Therapy. Through shared keynote and joint scientific sessions, participants will have an opportunity to network and share cross-disciplinary insights. Finally, we want to bring together researchers from academia and industry to highlight the differences and commonalities in our approaches and perspectives and pave the way for a better understanding of the translational challenges we face and the way we can overcome them.

Unique Career Development Opportunities

This meeting will feature a Career Roundtable where trainees and early-career investigators will have the opportunity to interact with field leaders from across academic and industry sectors for essential career development advice and networking opportunities.
