Meeting Summary

In addition to their essential role in defending against infection, B cells contribute to a wide range of immune processes, from driving allergic and autoimmune reactions to influencing cancer progression. The goal of the  "B cell and antibody responses" Symposium is to bring together scientists who have been driving  forward these various aspects of B cell biology. We aim to provide a broad overview of ongoing efforts along two fronts: half of the program covers classic topics in the field—germinal centers, memory,  vaccination—whereas the other half brings in topics that are not part of the traditional canon, including the structural basis of immunogenicity, B cell responses outside of secondary lymphoid organs, and efforts to treat diseases not classically regarded as B cell-driven. We expect this Symposium, in addition to bringing together the traditional B cell biology community, will also expose scientists to ground-breaking work done in areas that they do not normally attend to. By combining basic science with disease-oriented research in a single meeting, we hope attendees will leave with clear insights into both routine and cutting-edge methods, forge new connections across disciplines, and develop novel ideas for advancing B cell research in health and disease.
