Nils-Goran Larsson, MD

Nils-Göran Larsson, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet, where his research focuses on the fundamental biology of mitochondria, including how mitochondrial DNA expression is regulated and how impaired mitochondrial function causes human disease and aging. A physician-scientist trained in pediatrics, he conducted postdoctoral studies at Stanford University as an HHMI Physician Postdoctoral Fellow before establishing his group at Karolinska in 1997. He previously served as a founding Director of the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne and is a member of both the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Aleksandra Filipovska, PhD
University of Western Australia
Aleksandra Filipovska, Ph.D., is a Professor and NHMRC Investigator holding the Louis Landau Chair in Child Health Research at the University of Western Australia and the Telethon Kids Institute, and serves as Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Synthetic Biology. Internationally renowned for her pioneering work in mitochondrial genomics, her research focuses on the regulation of mitochondrial gene expression, the role of RNA-binding proteins in mitochondrial function, and the molecular mechanisms underlying mitochondrial and metabolic diseases. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Otago and conducted postdoctoral training at the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit in Cambridge, and is an elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
