Kirsty L. Spalding, PhD

Kirsty L. Spalding, Ph.D., is a Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institute and is an internationally recognized leader in human adipose tissue biology. Her work has defined foundational concepts in adipocyte turnover, senescence, and metabolic dysfunction. Her laboratory pioneered the discovery that human adipocytes renew throughout adult life and demonstrated that adipocyte senescence contributes to metabolic disease. Dr. Spalding has extensive experience mentoring trainees and leading large research programs.
Camilla C Schéele, PhD
University of Copenhagen
Camilla Schéele, Ph.D., is a Professor and Group Leader at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research at the University of Copenhagen. Her research focuses on mechanisms of human adipose tissue biology, with particular emphasis on brown and beige adipocytes, adipocyte progenitors, thermogenic regulation, and adipose-derived secreted factors that influence systemic metabolism. She has led human-centric, mechanistic programs integrating tissue- and cell-based models with omics and collaborative clinical studies. Dr. Schéele has substantial conference-organizing experience, including leadership roles in the CPHBAT series and participation in Keystone Symposia conferences.
Clair Crewe, PhD
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis
Clair Crewe, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at Washington University in St. Louis whose research focuses on adipocyte biology and extracellular vesicle–mediated interorgan communication in metabolic disease. Her work has provided foundational insights into how adipocyte-derived extracellular vesicles regulate systemic metabolism and cardiovascular adaptation. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Kern Lipid Conference and is an active contributor to the broader metabolic research community.
