Meeting Summary

Neural-immune interactions play a critical role in how the nervous system develops, functions, and responds to injury and disease, including those caused by autoimmunity, ischemia, and neurodegeneration. Understanding of the molecular pathways that govern neuro-immune interactions and the spatial contexts in which they occur is rapidly evolving. These advances are revealing new consequences for CNS homeostasis and pathology and creating opportunities to better understand CNS disorders and develop innovative therapies.

This Keystone Symposia conference on Neural-Immune Interactions: Immune Modulation of CNS Biology will highlight advances in the basic biology of the neuro-immune axis and explore how it can initiate, modulate, and maintain inflammation in the CNS. The program aims to elucidate new concepts on how innate and adaptive immune cells communicate with CNS resident neurons and glia, reveal how communication is transmitted across compartments, and delineate ways for therapeutic intervention.

Neuroscientists, neuroimmunologists, immunologists, clinician-scientists, and translational and industry scientists will have the opportunity to network and share cross-disciplinary insights. Shared sessions with the Keystone Symposia conference on Neurodegeneration: From Mechanisms to Precision Diagnosis and Therapies will further foster cross-disciplinary exchange.

Through the focus on immune modulation of CNS biology and close integration with neurodegeneration research, this conference offers a timely and distinctive perspective on neuroimmunology. Its cross-disciplinary and joint format provide a unique opportunity to advance understanding and treatment of CNS diseases.
