Meeting Summary

We are experiencing an explosion of new insights into the intertwined health challenges of obesity and cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular outcomes trials have revealed striking, but still not fully understood, cardioprotective effects of diabetes and obesity drugs. At the same time, breakthrough technologies now enable real-time interrogation of systemic, organ, and cellular metabolism.

This symposium, Cardiometabolism in Health and Disease, will explore: 1) metabolic basis of heart and vascular health and disease; 2) organ-organ crosstalk linking obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular disease; 3) mechanisms whereby new drugs such as SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1R agonists reduce cardiovascular events; and 4) the impact of environmental factors like diet and circadian rhythms.

The program will bring together experts across metabolism, cardiovascular biology, clinical and data science, drug development, and trial design, and foster collaboration between academia and industry to accelerate discovery and treatment strategies for cardiometabolic disease.

Held jointly with the Keystone Symposium on “Obesity Therapeutics: Unlocking Benefits and Minimizing Side Effects,” this conference will enable better understanding of the intersection of these diseases, and their treatments, to drive clinical impacts across both fields.

In the video below, Dr. Daniel Kelly from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, talks about what to expect at this meeting:
