Meeting Summary
The blood-brain barrier remains a major challenge for the development and implementation of safe and effective therapeutics for neurological diseases. Recent advances in the brain delivery field have garnered significant attention, including important advances both preclinically and clinically. These promising results have accelerated research in the CNS drug delivery field in recent years. This conference aims to focus on sharing the latest scientific and technological advances in this burgeoning area from both academia and industry, as well as identify challenges and gaps that may hinder successful clinical translatability of different CNS drug delivery modalities. The main goals are to showcase the latest research and progress in the following areas: established receptor-mediated transport (RMT) targets across delivery modalities; new RMT targets that can be exploited for delivery to further provide optionality; platform engineering for additional properties to enhance both delivery and functionality; alternative modes of drug delivery; successes and challenges in preclinical in vivo models; and latest clinical data utilizing CNS delivery platforms along with a focus on lessons learned. Given the nature of these topics, this meeting is unique because it bridges across many disciplines that are normally discussed at separate conferences. As such, this meeting will bring together scientists and trainees from across academia and industry in the fields of basic neuroscience, bioengineering, drug discovery, and clinical science. We believe each of these sectors can bring unique perspectives to the discourse of how we can continue to innovate in the field of CNS drug delivery to maximize clinical success and accelerate progress towards meeting major unmet medical needs for the treatment of neurological diseases.
Unique Career Development Opportunities
This meeting will feature a Career Roundtable where trainees and early-career investigators will have the opportunity to interact with field leaders from across academic and industry sectors for essential career development advice and networking opportunities.
