Joy Yu Zuchero, PhD
Denali Therapeutics Inc
Joy Zuchero, Ph.D., is Senior Director and Staff Scientist at Denali Therapeutics, with over 15 years of experience in BBB research. She began her career at Genentech, where she authored multiple seminal publications in the BBB drug delivery field. Dr. Zuchero joined Denali in 2015 to develop BBB-crossing platform efforts from the ground up. She currently leads cross-functional project teams utilizing BBB delivery platforms to develop therapeutic targets for neurodegeneration. Dr. Zuchero has led multiple external collaborations with biotechnology companies and academic groups, and her research has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed papers and patents on BBB platform technology. She also has experience co-organizing scientific meetings, including the 2023 and 2025 Cold Spring Harbor Blood-Brain Barrier meetings.
Peter Tessier
University of Michigan
Peter M. Tessier, Ph.D., is Albert M. Mattocks Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he also serves as a faculty member in the Biointerfaces Institute and the Program in Chemical Biology. His research focuses on antibody engineering, biotherapeutic developability and non-invasive delivery of biologics to the CNS. Dr. Tessier has pioneered experimental and computational approaches to optimize antibody affinity, specificity, stability and solubility, and has developed bispecific brain shuttle platforms that enable efficient and long-lived delivery of antibodies, cytokines and nucleic acids across the blood–brain barrier. His honors include election as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, a Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award from NIGMS, the Pew Scholar Award in Biomedical Sciences and an NSF CAREER Award.
