Christina M. Woo, Ph.D. is a Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University and an Associate Member of the Broad Institute. Research in the Woo lab aims to “rewrite protein modifications,” which focuses on efforts to discover and chemically manipulate protein modifications in cells. These efforts introduce new principles in induced proximity and targeted protein degradation and establish links between biochemical mechanism and cellular and therapeutic outcomes. Dr. Woo has experience organizing scientific meetings, including Janelia Chemical Tools for Complex Biological Systems IV, National Institutes of Health and thematic symposia for the American Chemical Society (ACS) and American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB).
William Forrester, PhD
Novartis
William Forrester, Ph.D., leads the Targeted Protein Degradation and Induced Proximity (TPD-IP) initiative at Novartis, where his team has advanced small-molecule approaches that create novel protein–protein complexes to drive selective target degradation. He has extensive experience in epigenetics, DNA damage responses, drug combinations and targeted protein degradation. His team helped pioneer genetic screens that identified BRD9 as a therapeutic target in synovial sarcoma and synthetic lethal targets across cancers. His team now focuses on harnessing cellular protein turnover mechanisms to drive therapeutic strategies against previously undruggable targets.
Alessio Ciulli, PhD
University of Dundee, School of Life Sciences
Alessio Ciulli, Ph.D., is a leading pioneer in targeted protein degradation (TPD), having discovered drug-like ligands for the VHL E3 ligase widely used today and having solved the first PROTAC ternary-complex structure, which has provided key insight that guides rational degrader design. His work has accelerated the field to more than 50 TPD agents in clinical trials, and he has co-founded Amphista?Therapeutics. He is also director of Dundee’s Centre for Targeted Protein Degradation, where he translates basic discoveries into innovative therapies for patients.
