Site Description
Herrenhausen Palace is used as a museum and venue for scientific conferences. It is the centerpiece of the Herrenhausen Gardens, one of the most important baroque gardens in Europe. Herrenhausen Palace is located about 10 minutes outside the city center of Hannover and accessed by a fast and efficient public transportation system from the Kropcke station. Recommended hotels are all within 15-20 minutes of travel time from the conference location and only 5 minutes walking from the main train and Kropcke light rail station. The Hannover airport is 11 km from the city center. Hannover is a city in a countryside setting, featuring the Eilenriede City Forest ranging across 650 hectares – twice as large as Central Park in New York. It’s a richly varied city with a historic city center, numerous museums, the Hannover Adventure Zoo and the Loccum Monastery.  The Herrenhausen Palace has taken many steps to decrease their carbon footprint and combat climate change, including providing only vegetarian meals at all of the food functions.

Outdoor Activities

Gardens and buildings in the Herrenhausen Gardens

The Herrenhausen Gardens in Hanover consist of the Great Garden, the Berggarten, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten.

The Great Garden in Herrenhausen is one of the most important Baroque gardens in Europe and is the historic centerpiece of the Herrenhausen Gardens. The Berggarten, also located in Herrenhausen, evolved from a vegetable and nursery garden into a botanical garden. The Rainforest House, built here in 2000, was converted into an aquarium in 2006. Admission to both gardens is free for attendees.  Visit the Herrenhausen website for more information.

Indoor Activities

The Herrenhausen Palace Museum

The museum opened in May 2013 and, following a redesign in 2025, displays state carriages of the House of Welf and baroque treasures from the collection of the Hanover Historical Museum.  There is an additional fee for access to the museum.  For more information, visit the Herrenhausen website.
